The Mississippi State University Foundation was created in 1962 to attract support from private sources for Mississippi State University. Since that time, the Foundation’s mission has been to build relationships between the institution, its donors and prospective donors. The Foundation exists solely for the benefit of Mississippi State.

Today, the MSU Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization that receives, invests and administers private support consistent with the university's priorities and mission. Under the guidance of a board of directors and the university's vice president for development and alumni, the Foundation now administers most of the institution’s fundraising activities and endowment funds which stand at about $300 million. The Foundation has been cited in recent years by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for overall improvement in fund raising.
The MSU Foundation is housed, along with the MSU Alumni Association, in the Hunter Henry Center, located at 1 Hunter Henry Boulevard on the western edge of the Mississippi State campus.
