The Mississippi State University Foundation was created in 1962 to advance higher education by securing private financial support for all units and activities of Mississippi State University.Since that time, the Foundation’s mission has been to build relationships between the institution, its donors and prospective donors. The Foundation exists solely for the benefit of Mississippi State.

Today, as a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization, the MSU Foundation is responsible for soliciting, receipting, acknowledging and managing private gifts benefiting the educational, research and service programs consistent with the university's priorities and mission. Under the guidance of a board of directors and the university's vice president for development and alumni, the Foundation administers most of the institution’s fundraising activities and endowment funds totaling more than $894.5 million (as of June 30, 2024). The Foundation has been cited in its history by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for overall improvement in fundraising.

The MSU Foundation is housed, along with the MSU Alumni Association, in The Mill, located at 600 Russell Street, Starkville MS, 39759.
